How to make gel polish last three full weeks

Most gel comes off early for the same three reasons. None of them are the polish.

How to make gel polish last three full weeks

Reason one: preparation

Gel bonds to a dry, oil-free nail plate. If the cuticle area has not been cleared properly or hand cream was applied beforehand, the edges lift within days. Skip hand cream on the morning of your appointment.

Reason two: thickness

Thick coats cure unevenly. The surface hardens while the layer underneath stays soft, and the whole thing peels as one piece. Thin coats, cured properly, stay flexible and move with the nail.

Reason three: removal

Peeling gel off takes the top layer of the natural nail with it. The next set then has less to bond to, lifts sooner, and the cycle continues. Soak-off removal is not a luxury — it is what keeps the next application working.

Day-to-day

  • Cuticle oil daily. Flexible nails chip far less than dry ones.
  • Gloves for cleaning and washing up.
  • Do not use your nails as tools.
  • Come back for a proper removal rather than picking at a lifted edge.

Three weeks is realistic. Four is possible but the regrowth line usually looks wrong before the gel fails.
